Description
Tetric PowerFill – Sculptable posterior 4-mm composite for true to nature esthetic results in the posterior region with light-curing times starting from 3 seconds. It can be cured in only 3 seconds with the Bluephase PowerCure curing light or in 10 seconds with a curing light intensity of 1000 mW/cm2.
Tetric PowerFill is a light-curing radiopaque composite for the direct restorative treatment in posterior teeth. Tetric PowerFill cures with light in the wavelength range of 500-3300 nm and can be applied in layers of up to 4 mm.
Tetric PowerFill is characterized by reliable depth of cure, low shrinkage and optimum flexural strength. In short: The clinical performance of Tetric PowerFill is just as impressive and the results are just as esthetic as those achieved with conventional composites. The low stickiness of Tetric PowerFill facilitates the creation of anatomical structures.
Patented light initiator Ivocerin and Aessencio Technology
Ivocerin ensures a reliable depth of cure of composite layers of up to 4 mm. The Aessencio Technology is responsible for gradually increasing the opacity of the initially translucent 4-mm composites during the light polymerization process. Ultimately, the materials attain the translucency levels of enamel and dentin and therefore assume a true-to-nature esthetic appearance.
The highly reactive, patented light initiator Ivocerin has paved the way for the development of Tetric PowerFill and Tetric PowerFlow for esthetic posterior restorations. Conventional composites designed for the placement of large increments are often very translucent. Ivocerin-containing composites offer enamel- and dentin-like translucency levels and up to 4-mm increment placements whilst achieving a reliable depth of cure.

Flexural Strength : 119 MPa
Shades : Tetric PowerFill is available in the following shades:
- Universal shade: IVA, IVB,
- Bleach shade : IVW
Composition :
- The monomer matrix is composed of dimethacrylates (20– 21 wt%).
- The fillers contain barium glass, ytterbium trifluoride, mixed oxide and copolymers (79– 80 wt.%).
- Additives, initiators, stabilizers and pigments are additional ingredients (< 1.0 wt%).
- The total content of inorganic fillers is 76–77 wt% or 53 – 54 vol%.
- The particle size of inorganic fillers is between 40 nm and 3 µm
Side effects :
- In individual cases, components of Tetric PowerFill may lead to sensitization. Tetric PowerFill should not be used in such cases.
- To avoid possible irritation of the pulp, areas close to the pulp should be protected with a suitable pulp/ dentin protector (selectively apply a calcium hydroxide-based preparation in areas close to the pulp and cover with suitable cavity liner).
Shelf life and storage :
- Storage temperature 2– 28 °C (36–82 °F)
- Close syringes/Cavifils immediately after usage. Exposure to light leads to premature polymerization.
- Do not use Tetric PowerFill after the indicated date of expiration.
- Date of expiration: see information on Cavifils, syringes and packages.

Direction to use
Direction to use
1. Shade determination
Clean the teeth prior to shade determination. The shade is selected with the tooth still moist.
2. Isolation
Adequate relative or absolute isolation using suitable auxiliaries, such as OptraGate® or OptraDam® Plus, is required.
3. Cavity preparation
Cavity preparation is carried out according to the requirements of the adhesive technique, i.e. protecting the tooth structure. Do not prepare sharp, internal edges and angles or additional undercuts in caries-free areas. The dimensions of the cavity are generally determined by the extent of the caries or the size of the old restoration. For the posterior region, only the sharp enamel edges should be rounded (finishing diamonds, 25–40 μm). Caries-free cervical defects are not prepared, only cleaned with pumice or
other suitable cleaning pastes with the help of rubber cups or rotary brushes. Subsequently, remove all residue in the cavity with water spray and dry with water- and oil-free air.
4. Pulp protection / Base
The 3sCure mode must not be used for restorations in areas close to the pulp. Do not apply a base material when using an enamel/dentin bonding agent. Only cover very deep areas close to the pulp with a calcium hydroxide material (e.g. ApexCal®) and subsequently use a pressure-resistant cement (e.g. a glass ionomer cement, such as Vivaglass® Liner). Do not cover other cavity walls, since they can be used to support the bond with an enamel/ dentin adhesive.
5. Apply matrix / interdental wedge
Use a wrap around matrix for cavities affecting the proximal area or a sectional matrix and wedge it.
6. Conditioning / Application of the bonding agent
Condition and apply the bonding agent according to the Instructions for Use of the product in use. Ivoclar Vivadent recommends using the universal bonding agent Adhese® Universal, a single-component, light-cured adhesives for direct and indirect bonding procedures that features compatibility with all etching techniques.
7. Application of Tetric PowerFill
- In order to achieve optimum results, Tetric PowerFill should be applied in increments of max. 4 mm and adapted to the cavity walls with suitable instrument (e.g. OptraSculpt®).
- Sufficient exposure to the curing light prevents incomplete polymerization.
- The instructions for use of the curing light must be observed.
- When using a metal matrix, additionally polymerize the composite material from the buccal or lingual/palatal aspect after removing the matrix, if no Bluephase® curing light is used.
- If the light guide could not be positioned ideally, e.g. at a distance to the composite or at a diverging scattering angle, the composite material should also be light-cured again (no 3sCure mode), but observing the above mentioned safety notes.
- As an option, a flowable composite (e.g. Tetric EvoFlow®, Tetric EvoFlow® Bulk Fill or Tetric PowerFlow) can be applied. This optional layer must be cured separately (please refer to the respective Instructions for Use).
8. Finishing / Checking the occlusion / Polishing
Remove excess material with suitable finishers or fine diamonds after polymerization. Check the occlusion and articulation and apply appropriate grinding corrections to prevent premature contacts or undesired articulation paths on the surface of the restorations. Use silicone polishers (e.g. OptraPol®) as well as polishing discs and polishing strips to polish the restoration to a high gloss.
