ICPA Mucopain Benzocaine Gel is a topical anesthetic designed specifically for relieving discomfort from mouth ulcers and minor oral injuries. Containing 20% benzocaine in a water-miscible base, this gel provides effective local anesthesia by blocking nerve transmission. Benzocaine, an ester-type local anesthetic, acts quickly due to its low pKa value of 2.6, allowing for rapid onset and fast action. The gel is suitable for use on accessible mucous membranes, excluding the eyes, and is particularly beneficial for conditions such as nutritional deficiency-induced ulcers, traumatic ulcers, and oral mucosal injuries from dental procedures. Mucopain is not recommended for infants and its use during pregnancy has not been established as safe. Users should avoid covering the affected area with any material and should discontinue use if sensitivity or irritation occurs. A notable warning for methemoglobinemia, a serious condition that reduces oxygen in the blood, is included. Symptoms of methemoglobinemia include cyanosis, headache, rapid heart rate, and shortness of breath. Immediate medical attention is required if any of these symptoms develop.
